good morning campers!
Day 6
Wrote this all on Sunday. That’s why I say yesterday and today, when I really mean three days ago or two. Get it? Got it? Good.
The word for thank you is dequee. The word for thank you is dequee. Dequee, dequee, dequee! Why is that so hard for me to remember?! Well, it’s actually dekuji with a little carrot on top of the e, but it’s pronounced dequee. Dequee, dequee, dequee. Now you know too.
Okay, so… the first day of camp went a little something like this:
- Woke up too late. (Big surprise, huh Mom?)
- Ate food.
- Worked on setting up the camp.
- Drew a bunch of pictures for the “Prayer Room”.
- Did silly things.
- Ate food.
- Played silly games.
- Campers came!
- Tried to talk to them.
- Had them laugh at me when I tried to say thank you.
- Played silly games.
- Ate food.
- Played silly games.
- Sang silly songs.
- Did a very silly dance.
- Participated in a very, very silly skit.
- Listened to Jon talk.
- Laughed at Jenda’s translations.
- Had first discussion group (which was pretty okay for the first time)!
- Played silly games.
- Crashed.
And that’s about it in a nutshell. But seriously, today was so much fun. I love my team. I love this country. And I love the Czech people. Speaking of which… here are a few things that I’ve learned about the Czech Republic and its people within the past week:
- They drive really, really fast. You guys think I drive fast? You clearly haven’t been to the Czech Republic. Donna and I were fearing for our lives.
- The food looks kinda weird - but it’s actually really good! And this is coming from a picky eater.
- Beer is cheaper than soda - so Czechs drink it by the gallon.
- Students don’t graduate high school until they’re nineteen.
- It rains a lot. Which is probably why everything is so green.
- The language is really, really, really difficult. Seriously. I thought Spanish was hard. But Czech is ridiculous.
- When I don’t know a word, I find that I actually know it in Spanish.
- Yo is “yes”, not “dude! What’s up?!”
- Neh is “no”, not the sound a horse makes.
- Ano is also “yes”, not “I know”.
And yeah, that’s all I can think of right now. Thanks for reading through all my ramblings. I love and miss all of you.
PS: Daniel, wasn’t Inception so much better the second time?! Yes. It was.
